This is what it looks like finished — a reference render, not yet a real photo by Eduardo.

A deep relief imitating the fold of cloth — the most demanding exercise in reading light and shadow in the whole series. There's no correct shape, only the coherence of how a piece of cloth would actually fall over those volumes.

Note: the images on this page are reference renders generated to plan the piece — they are not photos of a sculpture Eduardo has already finished. They'll be replaced with real process photos once the piece is carved in the workshop.

This piece can be carved in high-density rigid polyurethane foam (to practice the form without fear of mistakes) or directly in wood, for the final piece. Recommended wood: basswood or cedar — soft and even-grained, ideal so the deep relief doesn't compete with the wood's figure.

Step by step

1

Bloque inicial

What you'll need

Large U-gouge, V-gouge, and rasp — the deepest relief in the whole route.
